MRI Research Involving Human Subjects
For comprehensive guidelines on conducting MRI research at the CIRC, please refer to the detailed steps outlined in the CIRC SOPs, which can be found in the “SOPs” tab.
Step 1 – Obtain PRC & IRB approval
- Submit Research Application Form to Protocol Review Committee (PRC): Email your research application form (same document intended for IRB review) along with your cover letter to Aida Nasirian.
- Receive PRC Approval Letter: The center manager will email you the PRC approval letter.
- Submit to IRB: Submit the PRC approval letter and other required documents to the IRB for review as per IRB instructions.
Step 2 – Kick-Off Meeting
- Email IRB Approval Letter & Schedule Kick-Off Meeting: Email the IRB approval letter to Aida Nasirian and schedule a project kick-off meeting.
- Submit CIRC Service Agreement: Email the signed CIRC service agreement (file name: PI’s Initials-SA-PRC#xxxx-xxxx) to Aida Nasirian.
Step 3 – Obtain Badge Access
- Email MRI Safety Screening Forms: Email completed MRI safety screening forms for all research team members (file name: Individual’s Initials-SSF-MM-YY) to Aida Nasirian.
- Schedule Training and Orientation: Contact Aida Nasirian to arrange in-person MRI safety training and CIRC orientation.
- Confirm Badge Access: Verify badge access after completing the required training and orientation.
Sept 4 – Schedule Scan
- Set Up iLab Account: Follow the instruction provide in the iLab guide to create your account.
- Schedule Your Scan: Log in to iLab and book your scan appointment.
Q&A:
Can I initiate IRB and PRC approval process in parallel?
You may initiate both IRB and CIRC approval processes concurrently. However, IRB approval is contingent upon CIRC approval.
Do I need to report protocol modifications?
Yes, all amendments need to be reported to and approved by PRC. For more details, please refer to SOP 002, Section 4.3.
